“Your home should tell the story of who you are.”

There isn’t a single style of home that remains popular year in and year out, like the Transitional Style. And honestly, it makes complete sense. This style consists of the modern and the traditional, and you get the best of both.

Characteristics of the transitional home:

● Clean lines: Lots of clean and curved lines

● Exaggerated features: Wide roof overhangs or lots of glass windows

● Open-floor layouts: Huge front rooms, open floor plans

● The use of different materials: Metal roof, grid railing, wood accents, stone footers, and more

● Oversized windows: Normally, the windows are huge, but they’re not symmetrical

● Contrasting colors: Whites, tans, and grays with plenty of contrasting colors

Modern home characteristics:

● Minimalist Aesthetics – Modern homes place the focus on the general amount of space with not much attention to the visual appeal. Most of these homes lack design elements like curtains and doors with carvings – everything is very plain and minimalist.

● Clean Architectural Lines – The Transitional got the clean lines it adopts from the Modern style home design. This theme dominates modern homes with not much ornamentation at all. There is a curvature in play at times, with any homes pulling off an angular look.

● Open Spaces – Big open spaces are the key to a Modern-style home. However, patios and those types of elements are often micro-size to accentuate the monstrous rooms.

● Colors – Normally, the best Modern Style colors are gray, black, and white.

These are the most popular styles for 2022, and many experts believe that trend will hold for quite some time.

A black and white modern farmhouse style 2-story house with a double Cambridge CM Design garaage door. Plan #22001 from Plan Image.

Equipment: Cambridge CM design | Home Design: Plan Image # 22001. The garage dominates the front of this home, giving it most of the pop that the curb appeal has. The wood trim and the outdoor lighting do the rest of the work for this beautiful design.

Farmhouse Characteristics:

● Paint It White – Most of these homes are painted white, which was a key strategy in the colonial days for helping keep mildew away. Now it’s used to contrast the blacks used for the rim and other elements.

● Barn and Lantern Lighting: Gooseneck barn lighting looks great on these homes. Old lanterns are nice for attaching to the sides of homes and garages.

● Board and Batten/Lap Siding – This gives these homes that old rustic look. You can purchase wood that’s aged or untreated and this lends to the overall theme.

These mix-up Country, Modern, and Scandinavian-style homes. They have elements of all three wrapped into one unique rural style.

These Additions and Characteristics Work the Best on All Four of These Homes

Using a combination of all these elements gives you options for putting together your theme or following tradition. It’s up to you!

Vinyl, cedar shingles, brick, and stone. Wooden shingles, vinyl siding, and brick and stone elements are great options for all of these except the Farmhouse. None of them go well with bright, loud colors.

Fiber cement panels and planks. The Farmhouse and Scandinavian look beautiful with both elements. Additionally, they’ll also help to rain-proof the home and keep moisture out of important areas.

Wood inserts. Gables, dormers, and overhangs look perfect on the Farmhouse and Modern-style homes.

The Final Element Will Be the Insulation of Your New Garage Door

A well-insulated door for your garage is mandatory in certain situations. If you have an attached garage and use the inside door, you’ll want to keep the area as insulated as possible.

Even if you have a detached garage but have someone living upstairs or have sensitive materials stored in the space, you’ll want great insulation. Honestly, a well-insulated garage door will make the construction elements last that much longer.

The Princeton P-12, 9' x 8', Iron Ore Walnut garage doors and Ice White overlays, 8-pane Panoramic windows really enhance this Craftman home while providing R-16 insulation.

Equipment: Princeton P-12 garage door with R-16 insulation | Style: 8-lite Panoramic windows | If you do a lot of work in your garage or have get-togethers and host plenty of people, letting natural light in is important.

The higher the R-value you choose, the warmer/colder you’re house is going to stay during the summer and winter. This means you’ll keep your guests more comfortable. If you rent the area, you’ll want good insulation, as well. Honestly, it pays to just get a garage door with a higher R-rating to prevent any trouble in the future.

Garaga garage doors are state-of-the-art garage doors that hammer down insulation in every area possible. From the bottom rubber to the edges, they have it covered. There is also insulation between the joints/panels of these doors to no moisture gets on the inside. This also means that if a portion of the door is damaged, you can save it and repair it. Normally you would have to trash the whole door if a part of it gets damaged.

If you’re into leaving a lower carbon footprint, we recommend Standard+ Construction and the Townships Collection Construction, these are both rated at an R-16.

This small California all-glass garage door brings a lot of light into the all white office of this lady from Montreal, Canada.

This door might not be the best at insulating the space, but she knows how to keep it cool. The paint and decoration theme will keep temperatures low during the summer, and the white theme is a nice touch. It’s perfect for plants.

Notice how everyone has the California? It’s a great garage door!

However, the frame of these all-glass doors is made from aluminum, which is a thermal conductor. So California doors won’t offer the same level of insulation as steel garage doors insulated with polyurethane foam. However, their beauty is unmatched. Use these tips to compensate:

● Use a space heater or portable air conditioner

● Use overhead fans

● Install an exclusive central air conditioning unit for that room

● Beef up the insulation everywhere else
